Fog made the challenging roadway even more formidable, but our mounts were ready for anything, including the elder statesman of the five, Honda’s ST1300. Making its debut back in 2002, the Honda ST1300 has the longest tusks in our ST test. A refinement of the decade-long run of its ST1100 predecessor, the 1300 embodies the touring …

I have owned a st1300 for five years now and I love the bike! Handles very well and gets lots of looks. It has an 8 gallon tank so you can go 200 miles before having to refuel. Unless I find something better I will probably end up getting a new St when I’m ready for a new bike. I have put 20,000 miles and it is still just like new!

Well, our firsthand experiences greatly differ. Add to that my personal values on supporting American workers and we get even further apart. HD is made/headquartered where I live - I worked on the HD Museum and attended the 105th. Ride safe.

All brands have problems. Some straight off the show room floor. I’ve had experience with with 2 Harley fat boys and honda gold wing, 2 magnas, 2 vtx over the years and the ST now. I wasn’t impressed with the 05 Harley since it used oil straight off the show room floor. Better ride and handling with the honda in general. Just my first hand experience. Yes my experience and I will stand by it, IN GENERAL Honda makes a better quality product when set next to Harley.

Hondas are built better than HD? LMFAO On top of that, you might want to Google “General Honda” and see who’s name is on your ricegrinder. Be proud of supporting Japanese companies while more and more jobs are being outsourced. When your kids get hungry, feed them your soysled.

85% of Harley is US made. I don’t care too much for the look of the V-Rod personally - It’s Willie G’s pet. The newer bikes keep getting improved. Harley pays US workers Union wages and I’ll support to the best of my ability US Union made products.

IW calm down. I Support This country by paying my taxes. But what industry is entirely pure american now adays? some parts that are put on a harley are made in china or god knows were (electronic or electrical, and the Vrods design was help in part by Porsche and i thinks its the only bike id really consider buying from Harley since its the only one thats up to date by them. Yes it is good to support some company’s but only those that truly deliver you a good product. V rod for instance.

Had my 07 up to 120, no wobble. Don’t know if this was a problem with earlier models though. My first thought though would be to check tire wear. Sometimes the tires will wear unevenly which will cause a little movement in the handle bar at higher speed. New tires would fix that.

it seems like a great all around bike but i’ve heard that it has a high speed wobble. does anyone have any info on that? and can it be fixed easily?

    THE BEST MOTORCYCLE!

I tend to support quality, not my problem if Harley isn’t as good quality as Honda. Oh yea, think about supporting America next time you fill up your gas tank.

  12. IWLocal8 on July 3rd, 2009 5:39 am

And please comprehend - I said YOUR job, not your co-worker’s.

  13. IWLocal8 on July 3rd, 2009 5:39 am

You already don’t support American jobs. Why should they support you?

  14. boardoutmind on July 3rd, 2009 5:39 am

I understand enough that Union jobs function under the same principle that the company that isn’t Union. Don’t make money=bankrupt. So saying to me that hope my job is outsourced means that my Harley owner co-workers has less money to spend on a Union Harley. Your makeing it tough on Harley man!!!

  15. IWLocal8 on July 3rd, 2009 5:39 am

You obviously know nothing about Trades Unions. LMAO Doesn’t surprise me.

It only gets 25 mpg? That’s horrible mileage….

That 6th gear is great. I’m not a huge fan of the V-rod. I prefer the cruiser type bikes. I do like the concept of having the frame on the outside of the bike (as something different)- but understand that it totally reeks of Willie G. (got to meet him when we built the HD Museum - really is a great guy) Ride safe.

I got the grey 07, very smooth ride and good handling for the weight. I’ve never really noticed the wobble myself either. I just wonder what the tire wear is on these bikes or the weight that they are hauling around? Just me on mine in general.

I do have to admit that I preferred the handling of the family members 07 fatboy over the 06 honda vtx 1300. I liked the sixth gear of the fatboy and seemed to do better at 60 and above than the vtx. If I ever look at the cruiser styles again down the road I would most likely go with the fatboy. Ever had experience with the v-rod? Well heading down the road on the Honda S.T.

Overall, HD are bult more solidly (IMO). There was too much plastic on Hondas, and, the engines on Hondas are too “whiny”. Add to that I live in Milwaukee - home of Harley, and, belong to Ironworkers’ Local 8 who is also very supportive of other American/Union made products. I worked on the Harley Museum. As far as foreign bikes go, BMW makes a good one, but, I still prefer Harley.

P.S. Got a 07 fat boy sitting in the garage of a family members that I am allowed to hop on at any time. I will pass on the offer but thanks!!

Let us know about the ones that stand out. My experience causes me to go with the Honda, if your going to win a possible person over to Harley that might be passing by your going to have to do better. Harley’s will sometimes use oil brand new, just a fact of Harley. Honda S.T. might have a little wobble about them Not sure yet myself. May just be tire wear. Just a fact of Honda.

  23. IWLocal8 on July 3rd, 2009 5:39 am

LMAO You want to me list every bike I’ve ridden or owned since my first one in 1984 - and be specific about their quirks? (which was a Honda while I was stationed at Ft. Bragg) How about you come over to the house and I’ll show you the photo albums - it’ll save a month of typing. Then you can hop on either the 07 Sportster or 2004 FatBoy.

Tell me a little bit about your first hand experience. I’m interested in hearing about some of your bike experience. This is what these comment sections are about. Be as spacific as you know how.

  25. Runcycle09 on July 3rd, 2009 5:39 am

My bike is an 04 and I have taken it up to 130 mph with no wobble
