In 1984 Yamaha introduced the Yamaha Vmax. Its worldwide popularity is legendary and it is perhaps the most popular Japanese motorcycle ever manufactured. Introduced over twenty years ago Yamaha VMax motorcycles are still produced today. Since the introduction in 1985 only minor modifications were made to the design.

Some minor changes included changing to electronic ignition in 1990 as well as some minor changes in flywheel, wiring harness and pickup coils. In 1993 a larger diameter fork was introduced to minimise wobbling and drifting at high speed and four piston brake calipers and a few minor safety features were also introduced. In 2001 fork guards were added and minor changes were made to the forks bolts and damper rods.
Essentially the Yamaha VMax was until 2008 the same design as when it was introduced over two decades ago.

2009 Yamaha VMax

In June 2008 a redesigned Yamaha VMax was introduced in Europe and North America. Design innovations include an aluminium frame, a liquid cooled V4 engine, chip controlled intake, anti lock brakes and a fully adjustable suspension.
